Description
This is the first of three very old bolo ties that I will be offering tonight. This example is an early sterling silver & turquoise Zuni bolo tie...probably created during the 1940's to 1950's.
It is comprised of a shadow-box setting with 4 turquoise inlays...much in the manner of the Dishta clan. It is possibly an early work of the great Zuni silversmith...Frank Dishta.
The back of the bolo slide
(which measures 1.5 inches in length)
is not signed
(Frank Dishta never signed his work)
. It features hand-made sterling silver brackets...also consistent with a very early construction.
The
original
sterling silver tips measure 1.75 inches in length.
All of the silver
components have a heavy patina and minor surface scratches.
The braided black leather cord is old and worn...but may not be original to the bolo ensemble.
Please take a close and careful look at the many pictures I have posted...they give a good portrayal of the quality and condition of this old example of Zuni artistry!
Payment is due within 2 days of the auction's close.
